The main focus of the project with Superior Charters was to feature women sailers and how training increases their confidence in sailing and their skills so that they are better crew members and skippers, and even have the opportunity to captain a charter vacation.
One of my passions, and why I own the company, is because I really enjoy getting females out on the water.
Client
Superior Charters is a family owned and operated boat charter company based out of Port Superior Marina in Bayfield WI.
The Kalow family is very passionate about sailing and the Apostle Islands. They are devoted to helping customers plan their Apostle Island cruising vacations and training customers to be skilled sailors.
Requirements
The owner Cindy Kalow began to notice a pattern in her bookings. More and more women were booking sailing vacations but they also tended to be the most nervous about the actual act of sailing.
Sailing is a male dominated industry and most women start sailing because they are invited along by a male family member, partner or friend.
Cindy felt it would be important to promote training options for women because she noticed the more training they had the more comfortable they were with sailing, even to the point of sailing without their male counterpart. With women booking most vacations these days, this was a perfect opportunity to promote a women’s sailing and training weekend.
Solution
Our recommendation to Superior Charters was to create two different videos.
The first video is a 4-5 minute interview story following a female bareboat certification trainee, a captain, and the owner Cindy as they talk about the place women have in the sailing world and each of their passions to see more women on the water.
The second is a 1-2 minute promo video creating excitement around getting training to enhance skills with the end goal of becoming a more confident crew member, skipper, and/or captain. They would use this video on their website and Social Media platforms to promote their training sessions and increase sign-ups.

Their feature video was a five minute video of interviews with Superior Charter’s owner, Cindy Kalow, the boat captain, and the trainee, all speaking to women in the world of sailing.
audio/color
The filming was done in a way to give us full artist liberty over the audio and visuals. The color and audio in the video are specifically done to draw in the viewer and hold them captive to the visuals.
Promo Videos
The skipper training promo video features snapshots of the different skills and activities experienced by the trainee.
It’s purpose is to increase the number of sign-ups for Superior Charters’ various training courses.
Motion graphics
For the main promo video, we customized motion graphics for energetic and captivating visuals, and to provide key information about their skipper training weekends.
Full production Process
This project required consulting, scheduling and casting during the pre-production process, four days of filming, and the full post-production editing process.
THUMBNAILS
For easy posting on Social Media, website and newsletters, we provided a package of eight thumbnails to choose from.
